To Whom it May Concern:
Shanti Shivani served as the first Anna Jones Artist-in-Residence at Bard College in November, 2001. She was here for approximately one week and in that time she led students in workshops in dhrupad chanting. As a culmination of her efforts she and the students put on a concert/demonstration of this music.
Shanti was very effective as a teacher, performer, and as a personal inspiration to the students with whom she worked. Her broad and deep grasp of the musical and religious background, her musical skill and her ability to teach all combined to make her a wonderful artist-in-residence for a campus such as Bard. Because she is equally serious in her commitment to the spiritual, devotional aspects and the musical aspects of her work, she is able to teach on many levels, clearly communicating the meanings in her music as well as teaching the skills in performance. She was also personally charming and easy to work with. We could not have asked for a better person as an artist-in-residence.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Natan Margalit, Ph.D.
Visiting Assistant Professor and Jewish Chaplain
Bard College

Review by Danick Jawer, Sound Healers of Washington

I have the pleasure to invite you to:
"The Power of Sound - Healing thru the Voice" with
Shanti Shivani,
Saturday May 10, from 10 to 1 pm and 3 to 5 pm, in
my home in Redmond.

I met Shanti at one of her workshops last March and after 5 minutes of
sitting in her presence, I knew that her teaching was a huge piece in my
own experience of voice. Shanti has an extraordinary way to lead us into a
place of peace and letting go from the moment we start toning. The pace at
which she guides the unfolding of the voice is effortless, "organic" and
timeless. At times, rather that learning something new, I felt that I was
remembering... Remembering how to connect my voice with my body, the
movement of my hands with the flow of sound, breath and melody, beauty and
tranquility. The sound of the Tambura, a traditional Indian string
instrument that she plays as we sing, keeps us bathing in rich overtones
that without a doubt, deeply alter our state of energy. I can't wait to go
deeper into the experience and share it with you.
